The Band

The four-piece, Miami-based band Minimal defines what is powerful and relevant about Latin-Alternative music being made in the United States today; call it indie rock, call it alternative, call it brilliant. Minimal’s music flirts with the electronic, incorporates English and Spanish lyrics, and is pumped with a healthy dose of tropical energy.

Minimal’s third studio release Antibalas Corazon showcases the band’s dynamic and sensual sound. Antibalas Corazon incorporates fast paced tempos and a wide variety of textures by using synthesizers, drum machines, samplers, and traditional indie-rock elements that further characterize Minimal’s sound. Produced by Minimal, the album, dropping March 2012, contains six tracks mixed by multiple Grammy® Award winner Sebastian Krys, and three tracks mixed by longtime band producer Dan Escauriza.
Minimal recently filmed the video for their first single “A Deriva,” directed by Venezuelan born director Pablo Erminy. A remix of the song has been produced by Grammy® Award nominee and fellow Miami music man Mr. Pauer.

Minimal released their first album titled Fotos, Cartas Y un Puñal in 2006 under the Indie Latin Rock label Fabrika Music. The same year, Minimal was voted "best new band" by Batanga.com. The album’s first single “El Cubo” aired on alternative radio stations across the U.S. The accompanying video received airplay on MTV3 and other alternative television stations. In 2007, the band’s second single “No Sonar” rotated on Fuel TV and later landed in the featured music video section of MySpace Latino.
Minimal continued to develop their versatile and energetic brand of rock in the 2009 release of Hermoso Caos. The four track EP displayed the band’s evolution toward a more harmonic and dynamic style. In 2010, they released a live performance of Hermoso Caos on YouTube, performing all four tracks live under the surveillance of 15 digital cameras.

Pushing the creative envelope, Minimal created the Blue Space Man - a dancing, glowing fifth member of the band. Dancing from his post on the bass drum, he joined Minimal at shows and interviews during their 2010 promo tour. The character gained notoriety when he was featured in a variety of graffiti and wheat-pasting works throughout the U.S. He was used as the main character in the band’s music video for “Satelite.” However, the Blue Space Man is best known for an internationally televised stunt, where he and Minimal’s drummer Alejandro Angee snuck past security guards at the MTV Latin America Video Music Awards, walking the event’s red carpet straight backstage and making his international debut.
Minimal has performed alongside international artists such as Aterciopelados, Bomba Estereo, Amigos Invisibles, Julieta Venegas, Mr. Pauer, Los Prisioneros, King Chango, Jarabe de Palo, Cultura Profetica, Volumen Cero, Los Pericos, and Locos por Juana.
